Suzuki exhibited its latest ‘green’ concept studies for the future including a Swift with Plug-in Hybrid and an SX4 Fuel Cell Vehicle (FCV).

Suzuki has a simple philosophy: one of constantly finding out what customers want and creating innovative products and services to delight them and enrich their lives. This customer-driven philosophy is summed up by Suzuki’s “Way of Life!” brand slogan.
At the 2009 Tokyo Motor Show, Suzuki’s customer-driven philosophy was display in the form of automobiles and motorcycles that embody functionality for contemporary lifestyles and exciting new ideas for the future.

The hybrid version of the Swift is a supermini aimed at city dwellers that travel around 20 km (about 13 miles) a day and has been designed to be driven primarily on electric power.

It is equipped with 600cc engine that is used to charge a lithium-ion battery that powers an electric motor if capacity level drops. The batter can also be charged through any domestic plug socket.

Major Features

  • The Swift Plug-in Hybrid is aimed at people who make predominantly short journeys and would drive it on battery power.
  • If the driver covers no more than 20km per day, the engine does not start and thus uses no petrol.
  • The generator is driven by a light, fuel-efficient K6A 658cm3 minivehicle engine.
  • Since the engine is used only for the generator, its speed is controlled for maximal efficiency.
  • Efforts to minimize friction throughout the engine are reflected in engine parts such as low-tension piston rings.
  • The propulsion battery is a lithium-ion type incorporated into the centre console.
  • A battery capacity of a minimal 2.66kWh reflects a priority on cost and space savings.
  • A connector that allows the battery to be charged using household mains power is positioned on the rear of the body.
  • The battery can be charged using relatively inexpensive nighttime power.

2010 Suzuki Kizashi

Suzuki Motor Corporation is putting the all-new Kizashi sedan on sale in Japan on 21 October.

The Kizashi is Suzuki’s new flagship model. It offers bold, sporty styling; a refined cabin that’s the result of careful craftsmanship; equipment that reflects a focus on comfort; and exhilarating performance. Plus, it combines sporty handling with great ride comfort thanks to extensive testing and fine-tuning on roads in Europe and North America.

“Kizashi” is a Japanese word meaning “a sign of great things to come”. As the name of Suzuki’s new flagship model, it reflects the dynamic, forward-looking approach with which Suzuki takes up new automaking challenges.

Suzuki plans to launch the Kizashi in the United States after launching it in Japan.

High performance

  • The J24B 2.4-litre engine delivers maximum output of 138kW (188PS) and maximum torque of 230N•m (23.5kg•m). A variable intake system and dual mufflers contribute to superior intake and exhaust efficiency.
  • Where four-wheel drive is specified, it’s delivered by an intelligent all-wheel drive (i-AWD) system that realizes smooth off-the-line acceleration and great cornering performance. Plus, a synergetic vehicle dynamics control system acts on the i-AWD system and electric power steering system to suppress body movements and keep the car stable. (Where two-wheel drive is specified, the synergetic vehicle dynamics control system acts only on the power-steering system.)

Outstanding quietness

  • Sound-absorbing and -insulating measures throughout the body promote quietness while allowing the body to be optimally light.
  • High-capacity dual exhaust silencers suppress unpleasant low-frequency booming noise and realize a pleasant exhaust note.
