The New Audi A3 Sportback... Extremely well prepared.

Price On the Road : B$52,000

In March, T.C.Y. Motors Sdn Bhd will be launching the 2.0 turbo FSI new Audi A3 Sportback in S Line Trim boasting an output of 147kW (200bhp), 0-100km/h in 6.9 seconds & a maximum torque of 280Nm at 1700-5000rpm. Equipped with S tronic gearbox. Xenon plus headlights with LED daytime running lights, 18” wheels as well as Audi’s Symphony sound system.

Sporty exterior styling
Low, sleek, athletic – the A3 Sportback has the look of a classic sports coupé. It’s a look that’s unmistakably Audi – confident, understated, and with all the predatory grace and poise of a full-on sports roadster.

Front styling
A single-frame grille creates a distinctly self-assured look. New headlights, redesigned bumpers and the flare of the side air inlets give the A3 Sportback a real presence on the road

Aerodynamic body
Design and practicality merge gracefully in the sleek lines of the A3 Sportback. The latest in a long line of discreetly stylish Audi designs, the new A3 Sportback offers sporting good looks and an aerodynamic silhouette.

S tronic
Innovative S tronic transmission is a significant new option for the A3 range. Pioneered in motor sport, adapted for the road, it’s specifically designed to make ultra-fast, seamless gear changes without disrupting the power flow.

Electronic Stability Programme (ESP)
The A3’s ESP provides an intelligent, swift response to difficult driving situations. The system is capable of braking individual wheels to the limits of their grip, whilst simultaneously adjusting the engine management settings, to ensure safe braking whatever the conditions.

Anti Slip Regulation (ASR)
ASR cuts the power to any wheel that has lost traction, so the S3 continues to accelerate safely while keeping you on the road.

911 Carrera

Price : B$191,000.00

Fresh on the heels of the 2009 Porsche 911 Carrera with its direct-injected engines and excellent twin-clutch PDK gearbox come the all-new Carrera 4 and Carrera 4S models. Yes, these all-wheel-drive 911s share those cool new technologies, but they also have another ace up their sleeves — a new awd system, one that eschews the former Carrera 4’s viscous center differential in favor of an electronically controlled clutch pack that reacts far quicker to conditions, helping make the 911 more stable and easier to drive quickly than its rear-drive brethren, particularly in bad weather.

Although as much as 100 percent of the power theoretically can reach the front wheels, the Carrera 4 still feels like a classic rear-drive 911 in daily driving, until you sense that uncanny stability while powering out of corners. Of further help here is a new limited-slip rear differential that’s standard on all new Carrera 4s.

On the road : B$43,000

Suzuki has unveiled a facelifted version of the Suzuki Grand Vitara flagship, now available with a new larger 2.4 liter engine.

The new 2.4 liter engine produces 166 PS in the three door body and 169 PS in the five door body. The engine features a balance shaft, a three-stage variable air intake and a tumble control valve for the intake to for the best possible fuel-air mixture.

The new engine is also significantly quieter than the superseded ones and utilises VVT, which allows the lift of the intake valves to be altered while the engine is in operation. Continuous variation of the intake valve timing ensures smoother and more responsive performance, and the VVT system is complemented by Suzuki’s intake manifold tuning system, which alters the effective length of the intake pipe by opening and closing a valve to improve volumetric efficiency. Changing the port length in accordance with engine speed maximises engine torque across the rev range.

Other changes include new ventilated discs for the rear brakes, extra shock-absorbing elements at the front to reduce pedestrian injury risk, and ESP is now fitted as standard.

The current Mercedes Benz CLK is something of an enigma – built around the C-Class platform, styled like the E-Class, and priced in between the two, the car sits in its own unique segment and has no direct competition from its rivals. Its sales history has been a strong success, especially in the United States, but the car is set to meet its demise with the arrival of the new E-Class Coupe and the Cabrio one year later.

Mercedes’ U.S. chief Ernst Lieb recently confirmed the new E-Class Coupe would make its debut alongside the next-generation E-Class sedan in the middle of the year. The cars are expected to debut at the Geneva Motor Show in March and will be followed one year later by an E-Class Cabrio, which means the open top version won’t arrive in showrooms until 2010.

Recent spy shots show a prototype for the Cabrio model testing in Germany, and as expected it draws heavily from the recent ConceptFASCINATION. The car will be about 10cm longer than the CLK Cabrio that it replaces and it also picks up a new folding hard-top. The included computer generated rendering gives a good indication as to what the new model could look like.

Powertrains should include the new 272hp (203kW) 3.5L V6 engine as well as Mercedes’ 5.5L V8 for the E500 Coupe flagship. An even more powerful AMG version is guaranteed, sporting a 481hp (359kW) version of the hand built 6.2L V8 engine. The E-Class Coupe will be offered with optional 4Matic AWD and could possibly come with a new mild-hybrid option further down the track.

Rapper's Delight: Mercedes introduces armored E-Class

A Mercedes should isolate its occupants and be built like a tank, and the new Mercedes-Benz E-Guard fulfills both requirements to the letter. The E-Guard is the latest addition to the automaker’s line of armored vehicles, based on the standard E-Class and upgraded with an array of security measures.

Mercedes installs body armor right into the chassis, replaces the windows with bulletproof polycarbonate, a blast-proof floor and run-flat 17-inch tires. The result is virtually indistinguishable from a standard E-Class, making the E-Guard less of a target for would-be assassins and carjackers in the world’s less friendly locales. To help cope with the added weight, Mercedes has fitted a special Level II air suspension, while the standard engines from the E350, E500 and E350 CDI pull the extra duty. While some may say it’s impossible to put a price on safety, Mercedes begs to differ, charging a 10,000 euro premium for the armored E while politely reminding you that you’re not paranoid if they’re actually trying to get you.

Press releases from Mercedes Benz

New E-Guard models from Mercedes-Benz: Original bodyshell with a network of protective features

STUTTGART, Germany – February 9, 2009: Shortly after the market launch of the new E-Class, Mercedes-Benz is also offering the world’s most successful business saloon as a specially protected E-Guard model. This is mainly distinguishable from the standard model by a network of intelligently conceived protective features of special steel, which are invisibly integrated beneath the otherwise identical body. This protective cocoon also includes all-round polycarbonate glazing. Accordingly the new E-Guard Saloon offers its occupants effective protection against the increasing worldwide risk of criminal attack in the street. With this new Guard model, Mercedes-Benz is continuing its eight decades of expertise in the design and production of special protection vehicles.

As is usual at Mercedes-Benz, the special requirements for the special protection version of the E-Class were already taken into consideration by the developers at the specification stage. The new E-Guard is subject to the same bodyshell processes as a regular production model, which means that structural strength, dimensional accuracy, corrosion protection and outstanding paint quality are guaranteed to series production standards.

All-road protection against criminal attack in the street
During the next stage, highly experienced and specially trained experts install the precisely formed protective elements, which exactly fit the contours of the bodyshell without encroaching on the interior space. The result is a comprehensively protected passenger cell of special, high-strength steels and aramide components, which are complemented with highly resistant polycabonate glazing of attractive visual appearance. All these measures are invisible to the naked eye. The extremely stringent Mercedes-Benz guidelines are applied by the production specialists to ensure complete quality control at all times.

Despite the high level of special protection, the comfort-related advantages of the new E-Class are fully retained. This applies equally to the generous spaciousness of this fully-fledged five-seater, the spatial acoustics, the sun protection and the lighting/control functions. The rear window is heated, and the power windows on the driver and front passenger sides are fully retractable. Efficient power windows are also available for the rear. Optional extras include an emergency alarm system that causes the headlamps to flash and sounds an alarm at the touch of a button in the event of a threat. An intercom system allows communication between the protected passenger cell and the outside world. In addition the new E-Guard features the numerous, innovative assistance systems of the new E-Class.

The new E-Guard meets the stringent requirements for High-Protection according to protection class VR4 (formerly B4) and more. This means that the vehicle is able to withstand handgun bullets of up to .44 Magnum in calibre — at random angles of fire, to provide the most realistic protection possible. The E-Guard therefore offers outstanding protection against criminal attacks in the street, as has been verified and certificated by an internationally recognised test institute. Underbody armour is also available on request. This makes the entire underfloor area of the passenger cell resistant to attack with a DM51 hand-grenade.

Modified suspension plus adapted control and restraint systems
The suspension and brakes are adapted to suit the increased weight caused by the protection features. The E-Guard is equipped with a special Level II version of the AIRMATIC air suspension system as standard. The electronic control and restraint systems that assist the driver in critical situations have been specifically adapted to suit the different parameters versus the standard model. The car is fitted with 17-inch wheels and run-flat tyres designed for a maximum speed of 240 km/h as standard. With the tyres deflated, the vehicle is still able to cover up to 50 kilometres at a speed of 80 km/h to enable its occupants to escape from the danger area in the event of a corresponding attack.

Extensive test marathon
Like all the series-production vehicles, the new E-Guard Saloon was subjected to extensive testing under tough conditions during its development. This included endurance testing on simulated rough tracks, braking tests on Alpine passes, climatic tests at extreme temperatures, long-term corrosion tests and crash tests.

Like all Guard models, the E-Guard is covered by the full Mercedes-Benz warranty and service terms – in addition to the integrated, ex factory protection, this is another important advantage over vehicles with retrofitted special protection.

Family-friendly saloon with special protection
The new E-Guard is available in three engine variants, with an option of the basic ELEGANCE line or the AVANTGARDE line. The E 500 and E 350, as well as the diesel-powered E 350 CDIBlueEFFICIENCY, are designed as five-seaters with a boot capacity of 540 litres and a high payload of up to 550 kilograms, which means they are fully suitable for day-to-day and family use.

The High-Protection package for the E-Guard costs 45,000 Euro (German list price excl. VAT). The new E-Guard can be ordered from April 2009.

Mercedes C-Class got the best protections in front, side crash and protection against neck injuries in rear impacts.

Key reason to buy:
The Mercedes-Benz C-Class gains top marks
in US safety test

Stuttgart — The respected Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) in the United States has named the Mercedes-Benz C-Class one of its Top Safety Picks for 2009 – the best reason to buy in terms of safety. The C-Class achieved good ratings in all the safety criteria which were examined.

Each year, the experts at the IIHS rate new vehicle models based on stringent safety criteria, thereby providing an important tool to help buyers make a decision. In the latest assessments, the Mercedes-Benz C-Class was subjected
to front and side crash tests. The safety specialists in the US also evaluated protection against neck injuries in rear impacts. For all three criteria, the
C-Class was awarded top marks.

This result is confirmation that the C-Class safety concept, optimised based on the analysis of real-life accidents, also performs extremely well in standardised rating crash tests. With seven airbags, belt tensioners, belt force limiters and NECK PRO crash-responsive head restraints fitted as standard, the Saloon offers its occupants an extremely high level of protection should an accident occur. The body structure has been designed to ensure that, in the event of a frontal collision, the impact forces are distributed over a wide area and on four independently acting impact levels, meaning that the passenger compartment remains largely undamaged. Around 70 percent of all the bodyshell panels are made from state-of-the-art, high-strength steel alloys that minimise weight and maximise safety.

Furthermore, the C-Class is the world’s only car in this market segment to feature an anticipatory occupant protection system in the shape of PRE-SAFE® as an option. This Mercedes-Benz innovation uses the time between detection of a potential accident situation and a possible collision to initiate preventive protective measures, thus reducing the loads exerted on the occupants in the event of a crash by up to 40 percent.

By rating the C-Class a Top Safety Pick 2009, the IIHS has confirmed the vehicle’s extremely good performance in crash tests conforming to Euro NCAP (the European New Car Assessment Programme) in which the C-Class was awarded five stars, making it one of the safest cars on the market.

Some comments from edmunds.com

It appears as though Mercedes-Benz is finished with oval headlights for awhile, as this E-Class will get a more squared-off front fascia. The headlights will adopt a shape that resembles that of the current S-Class, one that gives the E’s nose a meaner, more angular look

Apart from the obvious changes up front, the rest of the 2010 E-Class will remain classically conservative. No major changes to the belt line, no distinctive window shapes — nothing. None of this is necessarily a bad thing, as the E-Class is already one of the best-looking sedans and wagons around.
